Therapists

Sean Copeland, LCSW

I’ve spent my entire career working as a morning radio host and even though I fancied myself a professional communicator, something in that department felt lacking in my relationships. I’ve had amazing teachers in the broadcast world, but no one ever taught me how to best communicate with romantic partners and in other interpersonal relationships. I bounced around to a few therapists until I found one with whom I really connected. I started doing work on myself – learning about past wounds and how they were shaping the way I was showing up present day for partners, friends, family, and even coworkers.

By the time I met Andy, I was a full on Imago Therapy “groupie.” There are many approaches to relationship therapy and this is one I came to really believe in. It offers a framework for healing communication, it helps create safety, stir passion, and helps you to understand and be understood. I believe relationships are the most powerful vehicle for growth in our lives. They can help you become the best version of yourself. Andy and I are now happily married and have co-created a relationship with more joy, laughter, and empathy than either of us could have ever imagined.

At some point, I loved this work so much that I thought “Why not do it for a living?” So, I went back to school to complete a master’s degree and become a certified Imago therapist. I am also certified in EMDR - a highly effective, evidence based trauma therapy.

In addition to couples, I also love working with individuals who have anxiety, depression, trauma, general life change, and a hunger for growth in their life. If you’re ready to invest in yourself and do the work, I’d be honored to work alongside you.

"The older I get, the more convinced I am that the space between communicating human beings can be hallowed ground." – Mr. Rogers.

Lori Karch, LCSW

I met ‘the love of my life’ in 1992 and knew we would live happily ever after. Sure, we fought occasionally and sometimes there were big fights, but we were married and I’d been told ‘all couples fight.’ When the feeling of dissatisfaction became constant, I suggested we go to counseling. My husband, George, didn’t want to go. So, I headed to the library and literally checked out the shelf of relationship books and started reading. When I came to Getting the Love You Want by Harville Hendrix & Helen LaKelly Hunt, all sorts of light bulbs went off in my head. Not only did it address my marriage, it described every relationship I’d ever been in! I bought the book, gave it to George and he read two chapters and said it wasn’t for him. Thinking at the time that ‘it takes two’ to make a relationship work, we divorced and I moved back to Indiana to be around my family and lick my wounds.

I continued studying the Imago theory and started doing the exercises in Keeping the Love You Find (also by Hendrix). I found an Imago therapist and started dating again. Enter Kevin. We had a wonderful relationship for about six months and then the power struggle hit. I asked if he was interested in going to a workshop and being the courageous man that he is said “Yes!” And so off we went to an Imago workshop. In those first few months after the workshop when we would have arguments, we would literally get out our workbooks and follow the instructions and read the sentence stems to get us through our conflicts.

Twenty plus years later, we are both in the relationship of our dreams. We rarely argue, we experience joy and laughter on a daily basis, and we feel more in love than ever. This really is the love and relationship of my dreams.

As for me, I went back to school to get my masters degree so that I could become an Imago therapist. I am now a Certified Imago Consultant providing supervision to therapists as well as a Certified Workshop Presenter. I have completed Accelerated Resolution Therapy training and Level 4 of Brainspotting and am certified in both modalities for trauma. Other training includes Interpersonal Neurobiology and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy.

My mission is to bring the tools of Imago Relationship Therapy to couples and individuals of Indianapolis and Greenwood to enrich their love and their lives. Imago Relationships work!
